Out with the Old, In with the Yonge & Eg
Midtown is in the midst of an absolute overhaul! From the much-anticipated Eglinton Crosstown LRT, to the hundred million dollar makeover of The Yonge-Eglinton Centre, to the multitude of condominiums going up in the area, midtown is the focal point of a lot of action at the moment! We are absolutely loving the revitalization of this area and are beyond excited for what the future has to offer in midtown.
Centre of Attention
The Yonge-Eglinton Centre is both a busy shopping mall and thriving transit hub and until recently, was in major need of a facelift. The new look consists of bright columns with colour-changing LED lights, offering a new perspective in an area that used to be very drab & boring. Merging into the modern era, The Yonge-Eglinton Centre offers amenities like a beautifully landscaped rooftop patio, a revamped mall, filled with favourites like Winners, Indigo, a Goodlife Fitness, and even the largest Sephora in North America. This renovation is certainly an upgrade, especially for the thousands of people that move through the building on a daily basis.
Set to be completed in 2021, the Eglinton Crosstown LRT will change the way many people navigate the city. This transit project will bring fast, reliable service – transporting passengers East and West up to 60% faster than the current bus service, also helping to alleviate traffic. This will be a gigantic step forward and will finally bring a new form of transit to the densely populated transit systems of Toronto, while also turning Yonge & Eglinton into a central transit hub in the city. It's expected that by 2030 that the LRT will transport over 5000 passengers per hour during peak periods.
As is often the case with major redevelopment in the city, along with all the major changes come a collection of new condo buildings. All along Eglinton, up and down Yonge, there are numerous condos already underway. Developments such as The Art Shoppe Lofts & Condos, as well as 150 & 155 Redpath are redefining modern housing in the area, contributing to the redevelopment and merging with the existing landscapes. Both projects bring a sense of contemporary urbanism to the neighborhood currently undergoing major changes. Tree-lined streets & high-rise towers are merging harmoniously to bring midtown back to the forefront of Toronto's most sought after neighbourhoods.
A lot is happening in midtown, as it transforms to become one of Toronto's top neighborhoods to live in. In just a few short years, the completion of all these enormous projects will leave midtown as a modern, chic, and central location within the city.
